AIT is pleased to host the artist talk by our current artist in residence from Sweden, Luca Frei, with the support of IASPIS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first part of his talk, Luca Frei will introduce his artistic practice, focusing on critical projects that highlight his unique creative approach to working with spatial installations, sculpture, textiles, and archive material. Among the projects discussed are Model for a Pedagogical Vehicle (2018), Musica Viva Spreads (2015), and Mobile Lobby (2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second part of the talk, Luca will present new textile pieces he produced during his IASPIS residency at AIT. The presentation will include a display performance in which Luca unfolds the pieces for the public. In addition, a slideshow from his walks along the Nomi River will be screened, offering a unique glimpse into the local environment that has profoundly influenced his latest work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luca Frei<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luca Frei is a visual artist based in Malm\u00f6. His practice encompasses sculpture, installation, exhibition display and book design, often fulfilling practical purposes or suggesting pragmatic aesthetics. Frei is deeply interested in collective processes and pedagogy, frequently drawing on historical references and themes from daily life. His work and research have recently focused on textiles, exploring their material and cultural significance within his interdisciplinary approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent solo exhibitions include Guiding Fabric at Galerie Barbara Wien, Berlin, working spacing moving at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, 2021, and From Day to Day at Malm\u00f6 Konsthall, 2020. Exhibition designs include Merz! Flux! Pop! at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, 2021, Migration, Traces in an Art Collection at Tensta Konsthall and Malm\u00f6 Konstmuseum, and bauhaus imaginista at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, 2019. In 2021, he collaborated with The Otolith Group on the graphic design for their monograph Xenogenesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 2015 and 2021, Frei lectured at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Visual Arts, Copenhagen. He has also held workshops at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
